If you have the Mazda 2.2 SkyActive diesel engine, don’t ditch the car talk to Owen. I have a 2014, which I have only had for a couple of years. Fuel economy had dropped a bit, started getting a bit rough on idle. I tried running the additives through which seem to help for a bit. I had the SCBS light come on. I took mine to a local garage, who basically told me to get rid asap. I did some research and saw the carbon problem. I tried to find someone local to do the carbon cleaning but could only find someone who would do the gas. Again, this helped, but not for long. My dad sent me the video that Owen had done with Mike Fernie. After searching for someone that could do walnut blasting, I realise that Owen was closest and contacted him. He managed to fit me in really quickly, kept me up-to-date with developments (more stuff he found wrong), and ended up doing a lot more work than I’d originally planned. Owen sent me photos and videos of pretty much everything he did. He found some bits with the suspension, which I knew about and had planned to sort myself later in the year. Owen pointed out that it be quicker and easier for him to do this rather than me (I’m self-employed so this made more financial sense as well). All in all, he has done a fantastic job. The car runs and handles smoother and better than when I bought it. Handling is tighter, acceleration is really smooth all the way through and the car pulls amazingly. The car seems much happier cruising at 70 and fuel economy is distinctly better.

I met Owen through a CX-5 owners Facebook page when I was having troubles with my beloved diesel Mazda. Owen’s communication with me from the very beginning was clear, informative, reassuring, respectful and honest! In terms of his mechanical ability and attention to detail after the very first appointment I drove home with what felt like a completely different car! (Walnut Blast) I went on to have other treatments as preventative measures as Owen recommended. I now have a petrol CX-5 and have just had it serviced for the first time and walnut blasted and wow what a difference it has once again made! It’s a 100 mile round trip for me to take my cars to Mazda Medics, it’s absolutely worth it!!

Recently had some extensive work carried out by Owen at MM Automotive. A full decarb of the inlet system as well as a DPF clean, cylinder head service & full service (oil, coolant & all filters incl.) and a full diagnostic of the vehicle. The work was done to a very professional standard including paint marking all the bolts and using OEM matching or better parts. He provided running updates with pictures of progress of all work carried out and discussed future issues with me too. He also gave it a nice clean and a ceramic coating free of charge looking after his customer as I spent a considerable sum of money but well worth the price and cheaper than any other reputable garage. I recently brought my Mazda CX-5 (49k miles) to MM Automotive for a service, and I was genuinely impressed by the level of expertise and professionalism. Owen clearly knows his craft inside out. He carried out a full basic service and diagnostics, and provided a thorough breakdown of upcoming maintenance items such as ATF and filter change, coolant service, belt replacement, and inlet valve decarb at 50k miles. It’s rare to meet a mechanic who is both highly knowledgeable and able to explain everything in a clear, confident way. The pricing was fair, the work was carried out properly, and I left feeling assured the car was in excellent hands. I will definitely be coming back for future servicing and maintenance. Highly recommended for anyone who wants their car looked after by someone who truly knows what they’re doing.
